"My gardening journey started during the first national lock down. I woke up one day , looked out my bedroom window and said "I'm going to make it flourish". I was now on a mission to Make it Flourish, my career as an TV Art Director was put on hold as the whole TV & Film industry was shut down due to covid. My Art Directors eye now turned to my garden. I had a vision to fill the garden with flowers! There was one problem I had never gardened or grown anything in my life!
We had recently moved into our home, and this was my first ever garden. It was an overgrown, dull space crying out for some life! The previous owner covered all the flower beds with matting and stones. It was crying out for colour and wildlife.
I got my hands on any seed packs and bulbs that I could and during my baby boys nap time I found myself sowing seeds, growing plants and digging up parts of the garden at every opportunity! All of the shops and garden centres were close, I had to make do with what I had. By rummaging in my garage for 5 minutes I found containers that could grow about 50 plants at least. I was sowing seeds in everything from old paint trays, food packaging to boxes wrapped in plastic bags.
By the summer I somehow managed to grow my own flowers and transform my garden into a vibrant colourful garden which is now full of wildlife.
I was on a mission to get my garden to flourish, whilst doing so I have experienced the amazing joy from growing my own flowers and making spaces flourish. It has been such a life changing experience that I am now on a real big mission to share this joy I’ve found with all the people that I possibly can. I am so passionate about spreading this joy and to help encourage people to get growing and flourishing, especially those that have never grown before.
I am still on that mission 5 years later. Live sow alongs lead me to designing a GOLD Award garden at BBC Gardeners World Autumn Fair, and was awarded the 'Peoples Choice' award by Adam Frost. And now in person Sow along workshops sponsored by Mr Fothergills and Sylvagrow. I was honoured to host the RHS Britain in Bloom 60th Anniversary sow along for the RHS Communities team earlier this year.
